My Unforgettable Journey as Co‑Chair for Light the Night
This past year, I had the honour of stepping into a role that has forever changed me: serving as Co‑Chair for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada’s Light the Night campaign, alongside the incredible Dan. When I was first asked, I felt deeply humbled and truly touched. I knew the importance of the organization’s mission, but I didn’t yet realize how profoundly this experience would stay with me.
Light the Night is the biggest annual fundraising campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, a night where thousands walk together carrying lanterns of hope, remembrance, and strength. It’s a movement, a community, a symbol of our collective determination to one day find a cure for blood cancers.
Being part of that mission as Co‑Chair was one of the greatest privileges of my life.
What made this journey extraordinary wasn’t just the events or the fundraising; it was the people. I had the chance to attend so many gatherings throughout the year, meeting supporters, survivors, families, and volunteers. Sharing my story and hearing theirs created connections I will never forget. Every conversation left me feeling inspired and reminded me of the power of community and compassion.
And at the heart of this experience was the incredible LLSC team.
Working closely with Ryan O’Quinn and Erika Kinast was one of the biggest reasons I felt confident in taking on this role. What initially felt daunting—overwhelming, even- quickly became manageable, meaningful, and exciting because of their leadership, support, and unwavering presence. They made every step feel seamless. No question went unanswered, no challenge was faced alone, and no moment felt too big. They truly made the entire journey feel flawless.
If anyone out there is considering becoming a chair, joining a committee, or organizing a charitable event with LLSC, I can say wholeheartedly: you will never be doing it on your own. This team walks with you every step of the way. They empower you, guide you, and make sure you have everything you need not only to succeed, but to enjoy the experience.
Because of them, what once felt intimidating became one of the most fulfilling chapters of my life.
To Dan, Ryan, Erika, and the entire LLSC family, thank you. Thank you for your belief in me, your support, your kindness, and your passion. And to every donor, volunteer, walker, survivor, and supporter who showed up, your strength and stories lit the way for all of us.
Light the Night will forever hold a special place in my heart. I am honoured, grateful, and forever changed.
